The Department of Culture Aruba (DCA) is once more organizing the “Arte di Palabra” competition in which participants compete in storytelling, writing, and declaiming poetry. Registration is exclusively for students of secondary schools and is open.

Arte di Palabra (Word art)is a competition between secondary school students from Curacao, Bonaire, and Aruba. This year, the DCA will be organizing the 14th edition of the Arte di Palabra contest at the Cas di Cultura on April 2, 2022. The competition objective is to allow the students to show their literary creativity. The goal is to promote the reading and writing in Papiamento, to stimulate the publication of literary art in Papiamento, and to promote cultural exchange between the youth of the ABC islands. The DCA works together with the “Aruba Papiamento Corrector Foundation”.

With the Arte di Palabra competition, they want to stimulate the use of Papiamento correctly through their poetry or short stories to enrich their knowledge of our language. When publishing cultural information the DCA ensures that it is written in correct Papiamento. The DCA uses the Orthographic Vocabulary in Papiamento 2019 to correct its official publications. For DCA, Papiamento is an essential element in their cultural education. Additionally, orthography, language, literature in our native language are symbols of our identity. Only by making Papiamento official it can be appreciated and serve as encouragement for everyone to learn about the history of our native language and promote the correct use in speech and writing.

The focus of the DCA and the Ministry of Culture is to promote the correct use of Papiamento.
