(Oranjestad)—The 67th Commission states of Women will be held at the United Nation’s headquarters in New York, where the theme will be based around women. Every year, The UN unites all members and leaders of the world for a conference.
During this conference, the position of women will be discussed, as well as the measures needed to end inequality between men and women. In the conference, there will be attention paid to what is needed to guaranty a future where women can have the same opportunities to hold importance positions in society.
In a declaration by Prime Minister Wever-Croes, she expressed the importance of having female representation everywhere, especially in important positions where decisions are made for the country, because it is only then that the focus for women’s rights will remain a priority.
This year, the prime minister of Aruba has been invited to attend the conference and represent the Dutch Kingdom. During the conference, there will be a general debate and the Ministerial Round tables as well, both which the prime minister will participate in.
The conference will highlight among other things the advancements in the women’s rights movement on Aruba. Something very important that the prime minister will bring forth during the conference is Aruba’s efforts in stimulating and promoting equal opportunities for young girls and women on the island.
It is no secret what has been accomplished in the prime minister’s generation. This is thanks to the hard work from those that came before her who fought for equal opportunities for women. This meeting will be an interesting one, and the topic of women’s rights in Aruba will be discussed. There will also be discussions on the Dutch Kingdom’s efforts in this issue.
