On August 3, 2022, pioneer photographer Rob Vermeer opened the photographic expo ’50 years of perpetual light’ at the Checkpoint Color.
He also celebrated his birthday on this day.
Checkpoint Color is the first photography business in Aruba, located near the end of the Caya Betico Croes. For over 50 years, Checkpoint Color has served the Aruba community with everything photography related. Who has not had their official photo taken at the Checkpoint Color for their passport, identity card, and driver’s license? Or have their picture taken for a special occasion like their baptism, holy communion, graduation, or any other important life event?
The Checkpoint Color has been capturing significant moments in the history of Aruba and preserving these unique memories forever. To celebrate the 50 years trajectory of Checkpoint Color in Aruba, they organized an expo called ’50 years of perpetual light’.
The Minister of Culture Xiomara Maduro, Minister of Labor Glenbert Croes, and Minister of Education Endy Croes attended the opening ceremony of this expo. It is a unique expo in which they exhibited portraits of important people in the history of Aruba, Caribbean personalities, and scenic landscapes of Aruba.
The expo includes photographs of different famous people, some who passed away and some still alive. The Expo gives a unique look at the prominent Gilberto François ‘Betico’ Croes.
The expo truly brings back the great memories of those photographed.
Minister Maduro congratulated and thanked Mr. Rob Vermeer for his 50 years of documenting the history of Aruba and presented the photographer with a gift for his services to the community.
