Universal Children’s Day is important. Why? Because today is the day you look at your child and be aware of all other children in the world and their life. This day you give more importance to the rights of each child and the blessing this young person is. United Nations established Universal Children’s Day in 1954 to improve children’s welfare, promote togetherness and create awareness worldwide.
Children are entitled to have rights and therefore November 20th is an important date. It is the date in 1959 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. It is also the date in 1989 when the UN General assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Therefore this year is extra special as it marks 30 years of the Convention on the Rights of the Child – 30 years of child rights that have helped transform children’s lives around the world.
