Thursday afternoon Aruba’s swimming selection arrived back in Aruba from Barbados where they achieved 9 medals, 3 gold medals, 3 silver medals and 3 bronze medals in the Carifta Swimming Championship.
Charissa Kock-Croes, treasurer of Aruba Aquatics Federation explained that last week athletes went to Barbados, for the biggest championship in the Caribbean, the Carifta Swimming Championship where there are 4 days of intense competicion, but with a lot of achievements.
From the first day present at the championship, the team achieved the silver medals, and over the course of the next days the national hymn of Aruba was heard many times. “We are very proud and happy with our athletes. Every day Aruba classified and most of them who classified were able to come home with bronze, silver and gold medals,” Kock-Croes expressed,
Tyrine de Kort, one of the coaches explained that Aruba competed against 18 other teams during this championship, and Aruba came out in 10th place. She added that the level of this championship after the pandemic stayed high and noted that the technique in Aruba’s team is on a good level.
“I’m very happy with this. All our kids did a great job, we had a good improvement and we are preparing for the next championships,” said de Kort.
In terms of what’s next for the team that just got back, Kock-Croes explained that they will continue to train hard so for their participation in the next championship that will take place in June/July at Trinidad and Tobago. Other than this, 3 athletes who are under the Olympic Committee will be traveling to Rosario, Argentina this sunday, namely Jayden Croes, Braynsly dirks and Gavin Kock, to represent Aruba in another championship.
