Yesterday marked the first day of the visit by Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands to Aruba. Princess Beatrix is visiting our island invited by Dutch Caribbean Nature Alliance (DCNA), of which she is a patron. DCNA will also be accompanying the princess to her visit to other islands in the Caribbean.
The reason for the visit by the princess is the DCNA congress regarding nature-friendly solutions to restore the ecosystems of the islands in the Dutch Caribbean, since princess Beatrix is a patron of DCNA.
Princess Beatrix began her visit to the Caribbean part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Cura莽ao on the 7th of November.
Yesterday, during the first day of her visit to Aruba, in the morning the princess visited Neptali Henriquez Park by her own initiative. She also visited the Telephone for Youth Foundation. At noon, the princess enjoyed lunch with the Governor of Aruba.
In the afternoon, Princess Beatrix visited Rooi Taki as well as Spaans Lagoen, where the directive of Aruba National Park Foundation (FPNA) gave the princess a walk through the location of a conservation project. The goal of the visit was to observe the conservation projects and programs that are being executed in Aruba to protect, preserve and restore ecosystems and biodiversity on our island, and also to cultivate a deeper understanding of solutions based on nature.
Today, Princess Beatrix will be visiting the Arikok National Park. FPNA has started a project here to reintroduce a bird species that became extinct on the island back into nature. This bird has a limited distribution, which makes its reintroduction in Aruba especially significant. The princess will observe a presentation on this special program for preservation of biodiversity, and will observe the birds on site.
In the afternoon, Princess Beatrix will attend the DCNA Symposium, which is focused on solutions based on nature. This symposium is taking place at the University of Aruba.
